Kelly this fly is beautiful and a great tribute to your friend ,i am glad David got to see it before he passed away.....
Just a quick note because the next one will be 365. I've followed along and looked at each and every one and I want to thank you for them all. I appreciate the beauty of each one and the talent that it takes to tie them. If you do another Streamers 365, I'll be here right along with each post.
Thank you all for the wonderful feedback. I feel like David would be very pleased. His love of fly tying was infectious. He was very helpful to me, when I started tying the long streamers. I sure miss him.
Kelly,
Beautiful work !!! Great tribute...
David would have loved it...
there'll be another after that, this year was a leap year!!
NEVER a single moment of regret nor a smidgen of "buyer's remorse"...

Kate,
Thanks a bunch for your kind comment!
You are absolutely right about the articles... they seem to just materialize themselves in my list of ideas. Too bad they don't write themselves! But right now it's Christmas and holiday, and a lot of GFF stuff is getting done. A great way of spending some spare time if you ask me.
Much better than complaining about a situation, which I can do little to change. Sure it's a bitch to be unable to go fishing on a day as beautiful as the one we just had today, but I had a nice day anyway. And I can comfort myself - and maybe others - with the fact that I'm actually getting better or at least I'm stable, which in my case is the same as getting better. I'm not ready to wade fish, but at least I can move around the house without a walking stick. A year ago I needed a walker to go to the kitchen for a cup of coffee!
So I'll leave the complaining to others and enjoy my days off here, tying flies, shooting pictures, writing articles and programming a new and exciting section for the site.
Martin
Martin,
Best wishes to you and yours for a happy and an interesting 2013. You definitely provide us with interesting articles on this website; I know that in your mind there are sparks of many more such articles waiting to burst into written thoughts.
Please do complain a bit about your physical limitations, the rest of us constantly complain about much more trivial issues.
All of you connected with GFF have done a fantastic job; thank you all very much.
There is nothing like building memories investing your time with family and friends are a precious thing not to be waisted! You only live life once and from the eyes of a child those things matter the most.
Another great gem from David! This is beautiful. I love it!
Spectacular looking fly you tied there David,i love it....
a very fishy pattern indeed, the all white rear two thirds really draws some attention to the green floss

Such a beautiful fly. I am not sure if it would be more appealing to the fish or the ladies!
Don, you knocked this one right out of the park! Stunning work!!
"The Ace of Spades" was originally named by the late U.K. pro-tyer, Dave Collyer, The dressing is. 4/10 l.s. hook, blk thread, dressed Matuka style, with 2 pairs black cock or hen hackles (back to back) over a black chenille body ribbed with silver oval tinsel. A "crown or overwing" of bronze mallard fibres with natural guinea fowl false hackle. This can be weighted &/or beaded if desired & has taken a lot of fish since it's inception back in the 1960's when it was first published in the now de-funked "Angling" magazine where Dave had a monthly column. It was also in his first book "Fly Dressing"
Thanks for the history on the other Ace of Spades pattern John.
It seems that Mr.Schmookler didn't do much, if any research on any of the U.K. patterns in Forgotten Flies, as I don't recall any of them being correct.
… I have a small favor to ask.
Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.
The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
