Doyle,
Droppers can be any type of fly, but oftentimes they are smaller nymphs or wet flies. I have personally combined muddlers with everything from small hare's ear bugs to Woolly Buggers almost the size of the muddler.
Tie the dropper on the line as shown in the article about the Welsh fly Diawl Bach. You will need a small tag to tie it on, and the distance depends of many things, not least your casting skills, but about a couple of feet or three will work in most cases.
Another way of fishing two flies is the New Zealand style where a second, smaller fly is tied to a piece of tippet attached to the hook bend of the top fly - in this case the muddler. This method will put the muddler in top and allow you to fish a smaller, sinking fly below it.
Hope this helps.
PS: Im working on articles on the subject of adding a dropper tag (there are several ways of doing this) and rigging several flies on a leader. They weill be published during the early spring.

Could you expand a little bit on the dropper? What are you using for the dropper and about how far from the muddler minnow is it?
GREAT LOOKING FLY . WE USE THEM HERE IN TASMANIA.

Hi Don, Caught your bio on streamers 365 and realized you were a Pennsylvania native as well. I moved back to Pa about 3 years ago after living and guiding out west. I spend almost every moment I can chasing Musky with big streamers in the Susquehanna River. Do you still guide here in Pa?
Very nice Black Ghost Don. This is one of my favourite patterns to tie as a hairwing.
Hi Don, Read about ya on the streamers 365 page and realized you were located here in Pa. I'm not too far from ya, I live in Montandon just across the river from Lewisburg. I've been chucking big stuff at muskies for the last couple of years, but also chase about anything else swimming from smallies and carp to streamer hunting big trout. Big show coming up in February right there in your back yard, ya gonna go? Check out my blog sometime on blogger, it's bigflychucker, quite a few pics of my streamers there. Have a happy new year!
Darren,
I will have my streamers in the mail in a couple of days. I will send them priority post so that you get them as quickly as possible. This has been a big learning curve for me as I really am not familiar with feather wing patterns so I hope that these flies are of the quality and standard required for your project. Thank you again for allowing me to participate and I look forward to tying some more for future projects.
Steve - one of the guys I work with was in your shop last week and gave me some chick-a-bou for your emerger. That stuff is so good even dumb Nebraska trout are in awe.
I can't wait either! It is finished and soon to be released in Europe. On The Fly Productions latest piece. Another masterpiece no doubt from Jeanie Ackley and Carl McNeil. The only downside with their stuff is - it's just too short!!!
I AM IMPRESSED! Really great work everyone that that took the CS Challenge II. Having been one of the ones inspired by the first challenge years ago and then to be driven to take up the torch of tying streamers the CS way and carry on the tradition sharing it with others I would reiterate- I am impressed. I first learned to tie the patterns well enough with a rotating vise then to take up the challenge of tying in my hands was not a terribly difficult task. I found that when I figured out how to keep the tension on the materials then all was well. Keep in mind that even CS said that no fly tyer would take up her methods if they were to commercially tie her patterns in that it was time consuming, but worth if it for quailty and durability. Hats off to all that took the challenge!
I'm looking forward to seeing your wonderful patterns posted on the site Alan! We're really happy that you could be a part of the project.
Hi Davie, I have been trying to tye your cricket pattern and have run into a snag. I cannot find a foam for purchase anywhere (internet, etc) that is as pliable or workable as what you show in your video. I have tried Wapsi thin and Wapsi razor (0.5mm and 1.0mm) with no success. The foam you used in your video appears to be open cell, coated on both sides (shines), and about 1.5mm or 2mm in thickness. Could you please check the thickness and manufacturer of the foam in the video and get back to me? It may not be available in the US. Thank you for your time and trouble.
JR,
I have no clue... I was driven around by my local friend, Paul. I'll drop him a note and ask where we were. He may or may not want to share with the world. I'll see what I can do.
Martin
Hi Paul, Can you let me know the location of the lake that you had your photos taken fishing the little red devil on one of your sites. This has been debated with my friends on its exact location. I have tried to google it but failed to find it.
Hi Martin, Thanks for replying to me,I take it that the waters are in Wales can you narrow it down to North ,Mid or South Wales. Regards JR
Outstanding book. Well presented, great photographs of fly patterns. Includes the most popular saltwater flies with detail instructions. I recommend this book to all beginners and intermediate fly tiers. I give it an A+

[color=darkblue:6242001bea]Hello Martin:
The pike is more beatiful than the fisherman ... :D
Thank you, greetings for all people[/color:6242001bea]
romanillos,
Whoa! What a monster! And the fish too... no, just kidding ;-)
That's a very nice pike. No wonder if you were a bit shaken.
Merry Xmas and a happy New Year to you too.
Martin
W I J Rees,
I honestly have no clue to where it was in detail or what its name was. I was driven there by small mountain gravel roads, over private land, through gates and whatnot, and my impression was that it was a small, private water, rarely fished by outsiders.
Martin
please can you let me know the location of this reservoir? I have tried to google its location.
… I have a small favor to ask.
Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.
The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
