I really love these flies on Chestertown hooks. They always have a sleek predatory look, very effective!!
Great fly again Monte!

Fi Bob...wish I could have made it down to the Seaside Rescue Squad meetings. My son and I met you at one of the Somerset shows, you showed how to tie[ with the double vise technique] for epoxy shrimp.I'm far from Jersey now,for example I was picking smallies off the top at a resorvoir in Ky. today. yah,and the foil is a nice inovation.Farewell, Sempers to ya,Tom Gibbons.
I've updated the entry for the VMC and removed it from the listing. These should have been listed as Mustad B-17 hooks and not VMC B-17.
I am always in awe of the fine detail work that is necessary to create such beautiful flies.
its nice to see different styles of tying flies, this is different to the way we tie the Montana in England, but i will be trying this one out in the near future.
tight lines
Well done, looks very nice, and a fish getter to boot.
Thank you for this hook chart! This is the first time on this site but will be back again! Great information.
I fish almost every day , my rule of thumb is i start counting If i hit 15 i just snap its neck and take it home and cook it . i bend the barbs over on all my hooks and never use bait only lures , with practice and light tackle you can always hook them in a way that doesnt even draw blood , most of the fish i keep are stocked trout which i had a DEP officer explain that they most likely would die over the summer when the water gets low so enjoy a delicious source of inexpensive protein
Thanks guys. I just got back from my annual salt Water fishing trip to Florida. I visit an old High school buddy and we try to scare every fish that swims on the west coast. Sadly, they just laugh at us, and swim away. Got eaten alive by mosquitos in the everglades! and scared away by some big crocs 13-14ft. Decided we didn't want to fish that day! at least not in the 'glades. Ate some fabulous food, got a good tan, and some wonderful reminiscing about the good ole days!
Again, thanks for the kind words.
P.S. I would be glad to send you more originals if you want Darren.
I like this fly a lot Bob. The fact it has grizzly is a huge plus for me. You did a great job on this one.
I like that pattern, I'd also like to see it with the Golden Pheasant crest in place of the yellow bucktail. Nice tie Bob!
Jan,
The substance is from Loon and is called UV Fly Paint. It's available in three colors, and can be cured with a UV lamp or simply by leaving it in the sun.
The small lump will both act as a colorful strike point and keep the wing and tail from getting jammed into the hook, where it can sometimes get stuck. Simply add the substance to a number of hooks and let them dry/cure and you have them to use on all your tube flies.
Martin
Martin & Ken,
on some flies or better hooks you use some red or green waxy looking colour as a biting spot, what are you using for making them? Thanks in advance.
Jan
Eunan, this is a wonderful fly! I think it is your best streamer I have seen. You outdid yourself on this one! Congrats!!
Thanks Kelly....its the favorite of the streamers I've tied.
… I have a small favor to ask.
Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.
The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
